We provide hands on, 1-on-1 care for every single patient, every single time.
Tired of the current healthcare system? We are too. For over 30 years, Health Motion has been one of the best kept secrets in Grand Rapids. We are a small private practice that has survived on exceptional results and our reputation for success.
All of our patients receive individualized care and 1-on-1 time with their PT. After all, how are you supposed to diagnose if you don’t palpate the direct injury, or have enough time with them? Patients seeking us for second opinions are shocked at the level of specificity we take to look at the body. So if you have had a poor experience with physical therapy before, we challenge you to give us a try!
We utilize highly specific manual therapy techniques based on the patient’s injury/presentation which addresses the root cause. These techniques are focused on reducing muscle tone/spasm, improving mobility, reducing swelling/inflammation, and activating muscles.
For example, we need to work on the muscle fibers of a strained rotator cuff before we can start strengthening. This allows our patient to have less pain early on and make a faster recovery. If you have had a massage for pain before and it came back a few days later, that means that the root cause was not addressed.
Our exercises target exactly what each patient needs (There is no general program that every person with back pain gets). This is most effective when a patient’s body is in its optimal position after manual therapy.
These often start focusing on mobility and flexibility early in therapy. Near the end we build strength and endurance to prevent the problem from coming back in the future. When you are discharge from therapy, your final home program consists of exercises to continue preventing pain as well as exercises to do in case you ever start to feel it coming back.
Uniquely, we use modalities to expedite the healing process. These increase oxygen and blood flow to injured areas to reduce inflammation, muscle spasm, and pain.
Ultrasound uses sound waves to penetrate the injured tissues to increase cell metabolism as well as increasing deep thermal effects into the body. Electric stimulation uses electrical current through the skin to stimulate tissue healing, reduce pain, and increase muscle activation.
We love getting to know our patients on an individual level and helping them on their health journey. Our favorite is getting to meet other family members or seeing past patients return (even though that means they are having pain). We are not affiliated with a hospital system, and that means we can individualize treatment plans that are best for our patients.
We specialize in manual therapy, offer a wide range of services, and focus on getting our patients better as quickly as possible.

Physical therapy offers a holistic approach to improve your daily life. Here’s how physical therapy can help:
The foot and ankle, often overlooked workhorses, are marvels of engineering. They bear the weight of your body, propel you forward, and absorb impact with every step. Your ankle joint, where your shinbone meets your foot, allows for up-and-down movement while absorbing shock.
Your wrists and hands are intricate marvels, allowing for incredible dexterity and control in everyday tasks. We use our hands for cooking, cleaning, using our phones, taking care of ourselves and others and many, many other things!
The hip is one of the most important joints in the human body. Sitting, standing, walking, running, lifting and many other movements depend on the hip to be functioning properly. At the same time, problems with the hip can cause issues in the knee and even further down the chain.
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jawbone to your skull and allows for essential functions like chewing, talking, and yawning. However, several factors can lead to TMJ dysfunction, causing various uncomfortable and sometimes debilitating symptoms.
People experience dizziness for a variety of reasons, and one of the common issues is vestibular dysfunction or problems with the inner ear.
Balance disorders are also wide ranging in their cause, from general deconditioning, diabetic neuropathy, post-operative changes and other neurologic disorders among many others.
