| Health Motion Physical Therapy Services, Inc. was founded in April 1993. The first day of services was April 13, 1993 at our Kentwood location. The founders are Rob and Ingrid Collewijn.
Rob grew up in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and studied Physical Therapy there. While playing professional soccer, he graduated from PT school and applied four years of sports medicine during his soccer career.
Ingrid grew up in Paramaribo, Suriname. She moved to Amsterdam to study Physical Therapy. In June of 1987, Rob and Ingrid immigrated to the USA.
The thought of starting their own clinic originated while being at school and doing different affiliations. Before completing this idea, certain questions needed to be answered:
- What would be needed to own a private clinic?
- Why would we want to do this?
- What should it or could it represent?
The gathering of data and knowledge took over ten years. Through study, observations, research, application and work, the answers to the questions began to evolve.
Answers like:
- A demand for physical therapy and an organization that would help to strengthen the demand and improve efficiency and results
- To help people recover from physical injuries and educate people regarding their bodies.
- It should be a health organization where people experience order, efficiency, understanding and positive results. The staff would be experiencing an organization that provides them with learning experiences, a distraction-free environment, opportunities and rewards.
In our day and age the body has become so important that one ailment or dysfunction could cause a devastating/depressing consequence. So, by educating and helping people develop gradient programs for physical improvements, we are stopping people from living with the consequences and helping them become active in their own well being and lives.
